Drink Lots of Water
Drink copious amounts of fluids in the first week after surgery.
Sleep on absorbent pads
Sleep on absorbent pads and plastic underneath to protect the mattress.
Clean Exposed Wounds
Starting cleaning exposed wounds the evening of surgery, and at least 3 to 5 times a day afterward. Remove soiled and soaked gauze pads at the lower abdomen and replace them with new clean gauze pads at the drain site. Do this as often as needed. Liposuction involves injecting large volumes of numbing solution into the treated area. This fluid can be blood-tinged. The fluid will drain out in the first few days after surgery. There can be a lot, and it can soak through dressings and clothing. After about 4 days, you will see a reduction in the volume fluid.
