Earlobe repair is a reconstructive cosmetic surgery to fix stretched or torn earlobes. It is a quick and straightforward procedure that only requires local anesthesia. Earlobe repair fixes damaged earlobes that might have torn because an earring got caught on something or stretched out from years of wearing earrings or gauges.
Earlobe repair is a common procedure open to almost anyone wanting to repair torn or stretched earlobes. If you are considering earlobe repair but aren’t sure whether it’s right for you, we encourage you to book a consultation with our amazing staff. We can assess your situation, discuss your options, and evaluate your medical history.
Every procedure at Esthetics Center begins with a consultation to discuss your medical history and options. In the consultation, we’ll assess the damage to the earlobe to determine the size and condition of the hole and the surrounding tissue. Some cases of earlobe repair only require suturing together the edges of the damage or tear, while others need more reconstruction. Our doable-board certified plastic surgeon will determine the right treatment plan for you during your consultation.
Earlobe repair is performed with local anesthesia when it’s done on its own. If it’s being performed in conjunction with another surgery, general or IV sedation may be required. Earlobe repair itself is a quick and simple procedure that only takes about 15 to 30 minutes.
There is minimal recovery for earlobe repair, about 14 days. Following the surgery, it is normal to experience some swelling, soreness, and discomfort, but they resolve quickly in most cases. At most, swelling remains for four to six weeks. Not getting the surgery site hot, which includes avoiding a curling iron or blow dryer, will help recovery. As with many incisions, there is a chance of scabbing.
Recovery time for earlobe repair is fairly quick, typically about 14 days, and results are noticeable immediately. However, it can potentially take up to 4 to 6 weeks for swelling to disappear completely. Once the swelling has resolved, your results will be permanent. You can plan to have the ear(s) re-pierced a month after the repair.
Earlobe repair is a quick procedure, so it can be added to almost any other surgery. It is a common add-on for facial rejuvenation treatments, like facelift surgery. It’s also very common to include earlobe repair to ear pinning surgery for adults. If stretched or torn earlobes are the only thing bothering you, earlobe repair surgery can be done on its own.
