WHAT IS A BROW LIFT?

As we mature, the forehead is one of the first areas to show our age, often making one look permanently angry, tired, or “overly serious.” The skin begins to lose its elasticity due to the effects of the sun, gravity, stress, and repeated muscle activity. One of the most successful ways to combat the aging process is with a brow lift (also known as a forehead lift), which corrects sagging brows and wrinkles in the brow and forehead area. Because brow lifting focuses on the appearance around the eyes, it can provide a dramatic improvement in how old one looks, and will leave you with a refreshed, alert, and youthful expression and a permanent reduction in the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

WHO IS A BROW LIFT CANDIDATE?

You are a brow lift candidate if:

  • You have sagging or flattening of your once pleasantly arched brows.
  • Deep, furrowed lines have found a permanent home on your forehead.
  • People in your life often ask if you are "OK."
  • You feel the person looking back at you in the mirror looks permanently upset or angry, or is in need of a long, sleep-filled vacation.
  • You feel you have an overly "tall" forehead and would like to reduce its appearance.

If you fit into any of the categories listed above, then this is the perfect procedure for you.

WHAT DOES THE PROCEDURE ENTAIL?

Before your brow lift surgery, your hair will be held away from the incision lines with rubber bands. For the most common brow lift surgery we do at The Esthetics Center, we make a series of small incisions just behind the hairline and release the brow's current position using an endoscope under the skin. After it is released, the brow is placed in a new, more youthful position; this will allow Dr. Rice to artistically craft your new look.

Studies show that the brow needs to be held in the new position for only 2-3 weeks to allow the body to take up the position permanently.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME?

Following your brow lift, you may experience temporary numbness and discomfort surrounding the incision site, and you may want to take pain medication in order to alleviate any side effects. You should expect swelling and bruising around the eyes after this procedure, and in order to reduce swelling, we ask that you keep your head elevated for the first 2-3 days following surgery, in addition to applying cooling packs. Dissolvable sutures will routinely be used, and any non-dissolvable sutures that may have been used in the skin will be removed within a week.

Typically, patients set aside 1-2 weeks for recovery following surgery. We strongly recommend avoiding heavy work or vigorous exercise for the first 3-4 weeks. This should include running/jogging, heavy housework, sexual activity, working out, or any other activity that significantly raises your blood pressure. With that said, we encourage you to take daily walks to maintain circulation, clear your lungs and mind, and you should be able to return to work within 2 weeks. We also recommend avoiding excessive heat and prolonged sun exposure for the first 3-4 months.

BROW LIFT RESULTS:

Once your brow lift has healed, and all swelling has subsided, your results will be permanent. This means you will be able to enjoy your more youthful and smoother appearance for years to come!
