The amazing benefits of microneedling include increased collagen production, improved skin vitality, diminished acne scarring, reduced sun damage, increased hydration, and an all-around rosier, brighter complexion. So, where do you sign up? At Esthetics Center, of course! We are proud to offer this service using the SkinPen -- the first FDA-approved device for treating acne scars as well as fine lines, melasma, stretch marks, and surgical scars.
Microneedling is a non-invasive medical treatment that can enhance and stimulate collagen growth in facial skin. Using a safe, FDA-approved handheld device called the SkinPen, tiny, hairlike needles penetrate the top layer of the skin to create micro-injuries. This activates the body’s natural healing response, which leads to the production of collagen and skin restoration. Some patients see benefits such as skin tightening within a week following the first session. Over time and during a series of treatments recommended by the doctor, microneedling will ultimately reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars and surgical scars, stretch marks, and other blemishes.
Microneedling is used primarily on the face for the improvement of skin texture (rough, crepey skin) fine lines, acne scars, and stretch marks.
Microneedling is an outpatient procedure that does not require general anesthesia or surgery, so there need not be any concerns about a long recovery. The treatment begins with cleansed skin and a topical numbing cream to ensure your comfort. After the topical anesthetic has time to take effect, we will use the SkinPen to trace the surface of your face (or specific treatment area), producing several tiny injuries to the top layer of the skin. This triggers a healing and restorative response from your skin. In turn, your skin begins to produce new collagen for the affected area, leading to a new and healthy glow.
Microneedling is a procedure that brings many restorative properties. If you have a history of healthy facial skin and tissues, you are likely a good candidate for microneedling. To ensure that you are qualified, be clear with your doctor about all conditions or prior procedures you have received.
Most people are not bothered by it at all. Once the numbing cream has done its job, you shouldn't feel much at all. The treatment is not painful, and we make every effort to ensure you're comfortable -- ice, numbing, and Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) are all available to make you feel less anxious.
After the treatment, your skin will look sunburned, but much of the redness and tenderness should subside within 24 hours. You can return to your normal activities immediately but avoid heavy makeup and sweating for the first day or two. It’s crucial to apply sunscreen that contains physical blockers, like zinc oxide or titanium oxide, following your treatment.
As previously mentioned, the procedure is not highly invasive and will not require an intense recovery period or time away from your daily life. The effects of the procedure are usually very minor, resulting in skin redness and sensitivity, much like that of a sunburn. We will provide you with all of the necessary ointments to maximize your comfort and aid in the healing process. We also recommend you stay well-hydrated during your recovery and always wear sun protection. Between treatments, we also ask that you refrain from using any at-home microneedling devices. It’s very easy to misuse them and end up damaging your skin’s texture.
Your skin will recover and heal relatively quickly, but the treatment's effects and benefits will become increasingly more noticeable over time. Collagen production is a gradual process, so follow-up procedures can be helpful and necessary, depending on your condition. Usually, patients need three treatments spaced four weeks apart. Some notice immediate benefits, such as skin tightening, within a week. Generally, results will be noticeable about six weeks after the first treatment but will peak around six weeks following the last treatment.
Unlike some other treatments at Esthetics Center, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is not a product that is pulled off the shelf and injected into the face or body. Instead, we draw a small amount of your blood, spin it in our centrifuge at 3,500 RPM, extract the concentrated PRP, and apply it to the area being treated. Treatments utilizing PRP stimulate the body’s healing process to regenerate and restore lackluster and damaged skin and boost the reparative process for wounds and injuries. As far as delivery goes, PRP can be injected or microneedled into the skin.
Plasma contains red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets promote growth and healing, especially in the presence of injury. By separating the platelets and concentrating them in the area of an injury (in the case of microneedling) or directly into the tissue, your body responds by activating the natural healing process, which includes building collagen and elastin.
If we are also using PRP during your microneedling session, we will draw your blood once we are ready to begin the treatment and let it spin while we prepare the treatment site. Once the PRP is extracted and ready, we will begin the microneedling. This part of the treatment takes only a few minutes, and shortly after we finish, you will be free to go with just a few simple instructions for aftercare.
